ICE-1BT Ice Tong Key Extractor
Product Description
An Ice Tong as a Broken Key Extractor? Peterson says 'yes'
Looking suspiciously like it's name-sake, the ICE-1BT broken key extractor does in fact have the kind of grip that you'd expect from a pair of miniature ice tongs. This kind of positive grip can come in handy when trying to capture and remove tiny key fragments left in an auto lock (or pin tumbler lock for that matter).
The tool is strong, but so much exertion can be applied to the tips that you do have to exercise some care when using the ICE-1BT extractor. It is easy to break if you don't monitor your use of squeeze pressure. There should be no need to apply a lot of force to the grips, anyway. This tool's main purpose is to grip and reposition the broken key fragment when it has become cocked slightly along the length of the keyway. In some cases, once you get a firm grip, you can actually pull the key out without resorting to a second tool, such as a spiral extractor or saw tooth.
This is an illustration of the tip shape on this tool:
