3-SW-EXT Sidewinder Extractor
Product Description
THREE SIDEWINDER-STYLE BROKEN KEY EXTRACTORS
Peterson Tools is reknown for producing unique but highly effective extractors. These three tools are extremely thin, with an offset tip which acts like the barb on a fishhook. The tool is designed to slide alongside the broken key fragment, inside the keyway, and as you pull the extractor back towards you it will grab hold of the soft brass key blade and bring it out with the tool.
Caution does have to exercised due to the thin metal of these tools, they can easily be broken. They are essentially metal shims, in fact. They are also sharp, so you should handle them appropriately.
We advise against using the sidewinder extractors to push wafer tumblers upward (sometimes necessary to make room for an extractor in the first place). You can use a key blank, with the slope at the end of the key shortened a bit, to push the wafers up out of the way while you carefully work the sidewinder shim into the keyway.
Practice is required, but once you use this set a few times you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
