The theory behind pick guns is called the percussion lock picking technique. When the trigger is activated, the picking needle, which has been inserted all the way to the back of the lock plug, springs upward with considerable force (which is adjustable through a narrow range using the thumb wheel adjuster). This force is applied to the bottom pins, which in turn transfer the energy to the top pins. This causes an instant though short-lived separation between the bottom and top pins. Because constant tension is applied to the plug while this is going on, the plug will rotate when all the top pins have separated from the bottom pins at the same instant. Due to the fact that the bottom pins will have varying sizes, this instant doesn't happen frequently. The trick is to keep firing away until that ideal separation occurs, and the plug turns. Patience is paramount, as is skill..

EPG-1 |
HPC's very successful EPG-1 has had a facelift in the past few years, picking up a cool ergonomic shape along the way and a flashy orange color. Don't hold me to the color, you never know what a factor will do in that regard so if you get a black one don't panic, it's the same very reliable gun.
