In days passed the Locksmith would pull out a sledge hammer or a crow bar -- or start prying away with a large screwdriver. Locks have been subject to failure since the day they came into being, because they are mechanical and we all know that anything mechanical is prone to failure. Thanks to innovators and Locksmiths with a bent for inventing, we now have quite an arsenal of specialized tools whose purpose it is to make life a bit easier for the beleaguered Locksmith. To aid in the drilling of locks, we have items such as padlock drill jigs. For pesky commercial keyed lever locks that won't pick, we have a fantastic tool designed to slip the lever right off the spindle without doing any damage (and there is a similar design for keyed commercial knobs). For steering wheel locks such as The Club, we have the Club Buster -- stupidly simple but wonderfully effective. As every Locksmith knows, picking is the first avenue when keys can't be found and key origination is not a viable choice . . . but it helps to have backup. These tools are meant to destroy, force or bypass locks. There are times when no amount of picking, shimming or manipulating will open a lock, or remove a device. Model LT605 Diskbuster, a great little time saver when you have one or several disk type padlocks that have no keys. These padlocks are notoriously difficult to pick and this allows safe and precise drilling of the shearline to remove the cylinder.
The Padlock Drill Jig is a special device that locks a padlock firmly in place and centers your drill bit at the exact spot where the plug retainer can be drilled out.
