Lockout scopes, which are used to obtain a visual image of the linkages inside a door while attempting to unlock the vehicle, are essentially a different tool than are so-called car opening lights because the latter does not usually have a means to see a closeup view of the area. These tools are sometimes combined and are just as crucial in lockout servicing as are the car opening tools themselves. Locksmith lights come in all kinds of packages, and we have endeavored to gather together the best of the bunch. The old days saw locksmiths buying DIY lights at the local hardware store which they would rig up in an attempt to focus light down into the wedged door/window separation – a less than optimal approach since a typical pin light or other compact light is too large for this purpose. In fact, it has been downright hard to find a lamp small enough to get inside the door without causing damage to either the door or the lamp itself. Turning to a locksmith supply site in days past wasn't much help, either. Now, however, there are many companies that have (pardon the expression) ‘seen the light' and are supplying locksmiths with tools designed in the form of a scope with a probe attached. Take a look at the great SLI-PV100, for instance. A magnified image of the linkage way down in the door along with a bright lamp for illuminating the important area.

It is not infrequent that the work we do involves getting at something in a tiny dark space. Opening locked vehicles is not the only situation that requires getting light into a tiny space.
