Plug Spinners
Lock picks are important but these little
gems are nearly as important and if you need one and don't have one, nothing
else will do.
A Plug Spinner is used when a lock has been picked in the wrong direction,
whether by oversight or intentionally when picking in the proper direction
fails. There are many models to choose from, but most work in the
same way, storing energy in the form of a spring that is released with the
touch of a button or the releasing of a trigger. A 'blade' is inserted
into the rotated keyway, which is attached to the body of the spinner.
The spring within the device is twisted in the direction of the
desired rotation and some kind of locking stop is put into action that
holds this twist. When the stop or trigger is released, all the energy
stored in the spring is transmitted to the plug of the lock and the rotation
is so fast it does not allow the top pins to drop into the plug as the
plug rotates past the locked position.
That's a lot of words to describe a very simple, and welcome, locksmith
tool.
