This tool can effectively remove most standard doorknob locks.  The Lockbreaker, Model LBR-10, is used in conjunction with a power wrench.  Once the knob has been forced off, the lockset can be replaced as there will be no damage to the door itself.

Force tools must be used with caution, but sometimes the situation calls for them.  This approach is much cleaner (as well as more professional) than using crowbars and hammers, and if used properly the door will suffer no damage.
