Lock Picking Training Kits, or Practice Kits, are relatively new to the Locksmith Industry and their introduction in 1999 by this very Internet site has proved to be one of the greatest advancements for students and aspiring technicians, as these kits allow Lockpicking Practice to be performed anywhere and anytime. To attempt to develop lock picking skill without due diligence to lock picking practice is fruitless. When I first set up LockPickersMall.com, there was a somewhat basic kit called a "Locksmith School in a Box". This was basic at best, with a few mortise locks keyed in successively more challenging combinations -- up to the last one which was simply a 5-pinned cylinder. While one could learn lock picking from this setup, it didn't offer much in the way of support and left off at what I felt was an inferior skill level. A good number of our kits come with a 6-pinned lock with spool drivers, something every lockpicker should strive to include in practice. Locksmith Training at home IS possible, especially when a good lockpicking training kit is employed. Opening a Lock by luck does not qualify as practice, by the way. When you can repeatedly pick the same cylinder over and over, that's when you've added a notch to your skill level.
